Root Cause – Cleaning Allergens out with Salt
Nature to the rescue again.
Salt in a neti pot saved my life, almost literally. That, combined with a fast.
After doctors gave me cipro that nearly killed me, and a long history of antibiotics and the system failing me; with allergies, sinus infections from a deviated septum from getting hit dead in the face with a softball as a child (never told anyone), bronchitis, I finally asked my doctor about getting to the ROOT CAUSE of these persistent chronic sinus infections and what was later termed chronic sinus “disease.” Every vacation for years I picked up something that went untreated while away, and turned into an infection.
My doctor (PCP with new HMO) got annoyed at the suggestion and reluctantly said “If you really want to see a specialist I guess we can do that.” (hmm) Only then, when the ENT specialist took two seconds to look directly at my deviated septum and said in a more medical term.. “duh you can’t breathe out of one side it’s blocked, half the size, just tilt your head up and look you can see it clear as day.”
So I found out I had all of these compounded issues, a very very bad doctor who made me sicker and sicker over a span of years, lots of allergies to mold, fungus, chemicals, etc. which combined = all of those problems. From there, the recommendations sounded horrifying.
So I’ll skip to the end… salt water fixed it. It cleaned out a lifetime of built-up yuck from my face, all through my sinuses. Literally. Salt. And. Water. And a neti pot.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. These and more were served up over the years until one almost took my life.
For many years I suffered and just went through the medical “system” and had so many antibiotics thrown at me that when cipro was apparently in the medical cupboards for anthrax, it was given to me for one of my many infections. Immediately suddenly my face swelled up, like a balloon almost didn’t recognize myself in the mirror, and it was red. Beet red. And it was moving quickly, down my face, to my throat, and swelling and getting redder…. I called the doctor who thankfully wasn’t too far, maybe 5 miles away.
When I described my symptoms I think their response was something like “get over here now! Grab your keys, forget your purse just get over here fast, unless you are closer to the hospital… ”
So I did, I ran back to the doctor where they were waiting for me… I raced… got over there and was given a shot of something, not sure what, to save me from apparently dying??
Talk about an eye opener.
After years and years, decades at this point, of being served up antibiotics, and then a determination by an ENT and allergist that I should take a bunch of weekly of shots for several years, then a surgeon could do the work of somehow opening up that deviated septum by going through my neck, up to the sinuses… okay that’s enough. I’m frankly not the one to convince that cutting into me is a good idea.

I bought this earlier version of this big book about Nutritional Healing in the mid 90s. In there it talked about fasting as a way to rid your body of toxins. I will not give all of the details of the process here only a summary; you don’t just stop eating. Spirulina was a big part of the fast to cleanse out your system.
It took about three weeks. It was a total cleansing / flushing process. (If you want to know more you must do your own research, this book is what I followed and I can vouch that it worked for me) A constant, persistent, recurring sinus infection that the antibiotics didn’t seem to work on, was healed by fasting. Years of infections the doctors never cured disappeared, finally, and it felt great.
At that time, the internet was coming around for everyone to use, so I googled (Netscape Navigatored 😅) these surgeries the doctors prescribed. They didn’t push me to do these surgeries, but they didn’t steer me to go find out myself what other options there were either, I had to BE MY OWN ADVOCATE.
I stumbled onto this company selling neti pots on the internet. This was mid-late 90s, and no one, I mean NO ONE had heard of this neti pot thing, around here anyway 🤔, and it didn’t sound fun, to pour water and salt through my nose and have it what?? come out the other side. But it sounded better than years of shots and then surgeries. When you’re desperate it’s amazing how quickly you open to new ideas. Cutting into me… or water in my nose. Hm.
Suddenly that made perfect sense, too, we breathe in all of this “crap” excuse me, but that is what it is, bad air, inside, outside, dust, whatever causes your particular allergy, it ends up festering right in your sinuses, blocking clean breathing. I mean you have to breathe to wake up. After that, okay, a camper or backpacker practices in order; water + heat & shelter… but breathing is a sort of prerequisite. This suddenly hit me like not noticing my nose was half closed, (still is… never got a surgery) duh, we can just wash out whatever is bothering our nose and it just washes away?
Well, it did.
I got a neti pot in the mail and it didn’t feel so great that first time to run that water through my face, I’ll be honest.
But my sinuses were so full of stuff (I’ll spare the ugly graphic green yellow descriptive details of what came out or how much of it did… okay that didn’t spare you really ) that after a few times of doing that I began breathing, through both nostrils at the same time!
In fact so much air was passing through my nose and sinuses for the first time in maybe ever, it hurt! (except when I went out west… no humidity there and my sinuses opened up)
I literally realized at that moment how much the “system” had failed me. The antibiotics I took, I’m just compiling my old files to get an overview, so far, it’s bad, I took a lot!!
When I would go back home to Houston where there were cats in the house, terrible humidity, smog or whatever is in the air down there for everyone to breathe and get sick, after getting off of a plane I would. (I will sound like someone with OCD if I say what goes through my head about planes and bacteria… gross!! ) The aisles in Houston are FULL of sinus medications!! to cover up the problems, never anything to get to the root. Turns out that is exactly what the doctors were doing to me too. The pills made me sicker, the sickness never got treated. It compounded, food made it worse… how to unwind it all.
The neti pot finally became available, and not something from Mars, when it got onto a popular tv show, and viola! The very next week, these things were available in all of the drug stores. (people flipped when I showed it to them before that, so crazy thinking back how blocked we’ve been from information- thank you internet!)
The next thing I did was fast and the final toxins came out and I was free of infections. Over time the “disease” went away as my nostrils became cleaner and the need to even use it is rare now.
This made me very happy.
[okay, and p’d that no doctor told me, I had to find out this way]
But happy.
One down. Many more Boo pharma tales, to go.
“People have been practicing saline nasal irrigation for thousands of years, starting with sniffing ocean water from a cupped palm. Delivery system technology began about 500 years ago in India with the neti pot.”

This is my story. Not advice.
How to use the neti pot
A ceramic neti pot is best. I found a very useful tool to have is a 365 nm UV light which is a special type of purple/ black light that shows nanoparticles and other things you can’t see with the naked eye, or even a regular black light. All kinds of squiggly lines and shapes and colors glow with this light on them.
To eliminate them, I boil the water, two solid minutes at a rolling boil. I ladle that out through a paper coffee filter into a glass pitcher. That is clean, nanoparticle clean water to run through my nose, and if you collect it from the boiling pot just before you are ready it’s warm and ready to go.
Never put water in a microwave, it changes the chemical compounds.
Neti Pot solution recipe:
- 1 part himalayan salt
- 1/2 part baking soda
- approx. 3/4 cup clean warm water
Mix 1/4 tsp. of that mix with clean warm water as warm as you can stand it, and run it through the left nostril, tilting your head over a sink to let the water mixture run through your sinuses and out the other side.
Repeat on the other side.
If your nose still feels itchy, repeat the process. If you do not feel comfort, there could be something else going on.
My very first time to do this was while I had a sinus infection. It was very uncomfortable as I was already in my late 30s and had a lot of stuff in there according to my doctors. They called it sinus disease and said I was to be on drugs and allergy shots the rest of my life. I did this instead and have not had a sinus infection since.
Right now with all of the chemicals being poured over us in the skies overhead, it is important to keep your nasal passages clear. I bought a new neti pot here and it is wonderful. I have no affiliation, but I may sell them here in the future.
