THE BEST LESSON – CRITICAL THINKING

First week at East Texas State University (now East Texas A&M University) I learned the biggest lesson needed for life and could have quit then and learned everything in this one visit to the doctor.

An earache is what did it. There was no internet in 1985. No way to easily go look up something, like, “what is a safe and effective NATURAL way to treat an earache?”

I remembered hearing something about mineral oil, wanted to know if it works and okay to try. That’s all. Got a lesson about motives instead.

“Yep that’s all you have,” he said, and whipped out his perscription pad.

He said “take this” and started righting on his pad. I tried to stop him and ask again, what I really wanted to know…

Me: “but I don’t just take pills, I’m asking a question… what about mineral oil, does it work?”

Doc dismissively:  “we don’t use that these days we use drugs now.” [the end, so he thought]

Me:  SHOCK

But I kept going, that’s the beauty of school, ask questions, question everything, that’s what I was there for…

Me to the doc: “Does mineral oil WORK or not???”

He did finally answer my question but he was frustrated, in an obvious tactic to force me to take those pills!

He said in a very irreverent tone “well sure if you want to go back to the 1800’s, but”…. get this….   “they didn’t know any better, now we use drugs.” Thank you Rockefellers!

Well, well well. That wasn’t received the way he thought. That poison, that script he tried to force on me, got thrown out and went into the garbage can right outside the nearest one I could find… and went to the store and got mineral oil. It worked. Ear Oil from Nature’s Way in Greensburg does too.

The lesson THINK FOR YOUR SELF. It’s your body. You live in it, not them.

Critical thinking.

So, there it was, this doctor taught me THE BIGGEST life lesson about people and motives. Years later, still holds true. Not assigning any motive to this doctor but he certainly wasn’t in line with mine…

To stay natural.

Lesson learned. Before listening to any medical advice, question the doctor’s motives.

❤️ Thanks, doc
